Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser For Butts-DeHeide Household at Trinity on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
If you have the time, we would appreciate very much if you would use the power of the internet to make more people aware of this worthwhile event by forwarding this information to your family, friends, and others in your address book who live within driving distance. Together we can keep Roderick & Hilda from becoming homeless. Thank you.
During the December snowstorm, calamity came to the Butts-DeHeide household in Silverton when an ice-weakened tree crashed into their 27 foot mobile home leaving it uninhabitable. This unexpected event was just one in a long string of challenges that Roderick and Hilda have bravely dealt with over the past several years. First, Roderick lost a kidney to cancer. Then the other kidney failed due to diabetes and high blood pressure. Roderick is currently on kidney dialysis awaiting a kidney transplant.
Hilda had steady employment with Champion Manufacturing until the business closed last Spring. Since that time, Hilda has been getting work as she can, but pay seldom goes beyond $900 a month.
In this time of challenge for the couple, blessings have abounded, too. Roderick and Hilda were awake in the undamaged end of the home at the time of the accident. So their lives were spared from what would likely have been a fatal accident otherwise. Further blessings came with an offer of temporary housing by their neighbors, Judi & Greg Nagel, which has now extended to over a month of hospitality. Soon the blessings will grow even more through the efforts of Judi Nagel's congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Silvertone Community Chorus.
On Saturday, February 7, at 6 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church located at 500 N. Second St. in Silverton will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the Butts-DeHeides. The suggested tax-deductible donation for the dinner is a minimum of $5 per person, but diners are certainly welcome to donate a greater amount. Plans are underway to request matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to increase the level of help for the couple. Money raised will be used toward the purchase of a reasonable, used mobile home in the $2500 price range. The Silvertones Community Chorus of Silverton directed by Debi Huddleston will provide a lively program of vocal music for the evening's entertainment.
This is the second time within the past year that Trinity Lutheran Church and the Silvertones have teamed up to meet the needs of a Silverton family in crisis. Last summer they raised money to help the McKinley family who lost their home and possessions in a fire.
Although reservations for the dinner are not required, a phone call to 503-874-9481 or an email to trinityevents@wildblue.net with the number you are bringing would help the church to estimate a count for preparing the dinner. The church does not want to run out of cook Kathi Hodson's signature spaghetti sauce.
If you are unable to attend the event, but would like to help Roderick and Hilda get back into a home, you may mail a donation to Trinity Lutheran Church. Donations payable to Trinity Lutheran Church should be sent to: Butts-DeHeide Fundraiser, Trinity Lutheran Church, 500 N. Second St., Silverton, OR 97381.
